Bridge rectifier is an improvement of diode half-wave rectifier.
Half-wave rectification utilizes the single-pass characteristic of the diode. When the input is a standard sine wave, the positive half of the sine wave is obtained from the output, while the negative half is lost.
A bridge rectifier uses four diodes connected in pairs. The positive half of the input sine wave is the positive output of the two channels. When the negative half of the sine wave is input, the other two pipes open. Because the two pipes are connected in reverse, the positive half of the sine wave is still obtained from the output. The bridge rectifier uses the input sine wave twice as efficiently as the half-wave rectifier. Bridge rectification is the first step in converting alternating current to direct current.
The bridge rectifier is composed of several rectifier diodes connected into a bridge, which is packaged with insulating plastic.
