Test of lightning current and clamping characteristics of suppressor in transient state

In order to improve the accuracy of clamping voltage and peak pulse current measurement, the lightning current performance, clamping voltage characteristics and voltammetry characteristics of three series of transient voltage suppressors of different types are tested by impulse current generator. The results show that the higher the extra voltage of TVS, the smaller the lightning current, the same extra voltage of TVS, the increase of peak pulse power consumption can not increase the current,TVS tube is only suitable as a secondary voltage limiting protective element. With the increase of extra voltage, the clamping voltage gradually increases, and the critical clamping coefficient tends to decrease. The clamping voltage dispersion is large when the extra voltage is low, and the clamping voltage dispersion is small when the extra voltage is high. Attention should be paid to the selection and consideration of TVS insulation.
